SusCarb™ Dextrin - Premium Energy Source
SusCarb™ Dextrin - Sustainable Carbohydrate
SusCarb™ is a unique highly branched cyclic dextrin (HBCD) from Zymebase Inc., utilizing cutting-edge green biotechnology. HBCD is a new type of maltodextrin produced from waxy corn starch using the cyclization reaction of a branching enzyme [1]. SusCarb™ has a higher branching ratio and a narrower and more uniform molecular weight distribution than other HBCD’s on the market [2] , but maintains the physio-biochemical attributes of HBCD including high molecular weight, low osmolarity, and high solubility.
Suscarb is ideal for sports and fitness enthusiasts who want to enhance their endurance, exercise performance by supplying energy for a longer period. It can be used as a pre, intra, and post-workout supplement.
Why SusCarb™ Dextrin?
HBCD
Odourless
Transparent and rarely clouds
Low sweetness
Compared to other Dextrins and Maltodextrins
Versatile Ingredient
Sports supplement, enhance taste etc.
Apparent Characteristics

- Highly soluble in water
- Transparent
- Colorless
- Odorless
Moisture Absorption and Stability

- Low moisture absorption (<18% at 40°C, 75% humidity)
- Highly stable
Molecular Weight Distribution and Purity

Compared to HBCD products on the market, SusCarb™ has:
- Narrower and more uniform molecular weight distribution
- Almost no oligosaccharides
- The average molecular weight is around 60, 000 ‒ 70, 000 Da
Branching Ratio

SusCarb™ has more α-1, 6-glycosidic bonds:
- 11% higher than other commercially available HBCD products
- 40% higher than maltodextrin
The higher branching percentage of α-1, 6-glycosidic bonds correlates with a slower release of glucose in vivo.
Lower Osmolarity
The significantly lower osmolarity of HBCD makes it an ideal sports drink ingredient. Compared to other carbohydrates, HBCD can not only easily replenish energy, but also effectively manipulate and deliver essential electrolytes and other solutes.

Prompt Gastric Emptying Time
A lower change in flatulence score was observed in the HBCD group , mainly attributed to faster gastric emptying and absorption.
